My Journey

Alex

Dixon

Licensed Master Social Worker in Plymouth, MI

Like many people, there was a period of time in my life where I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was lost in a world of struggles finding myself in situations where I had to face the consequences of my behaviors and deal with the damage that had been done. I flunked out of college and made the choice that I couldn’t live this life anymore. So I sought help. For a long time I thought seeking help wasn’t going to do anything. I continued anyways knowing I couldn’t go back to my old ways as the outcome was always the same. I found myself back in school and chose to study social work to help me better understand myself. Through this process of reflection and internal work I discovered stability in my life.

I am not a stranger to hardship and struggles. I know what it is like to wonder if things will ever get better. I have dedicated my life to helping people overcome their pain and to help them feel like themselves again. I became a therapist to help people bring happiness back into their lives and find ways to succeed.

Why Therapy?

Part of my road to finding growth within myself was by helping others. After completing my undergrad I decided to go straight into graduate school so that I could better understand how I could actually bring value to others. That's where I found the path of being a therapist. I became a therapist because I find meaning in helping people find their way out of struggles. I enjoy the therapeutic process of diving deep into the challenges placed in front of people and helping them navigate their way to success. The first step is often the hardest. Hesitation and reluctance to get started with therapy is a common barrier. There are an endless amount of ways to talk yourself out of it. Take a new step and find the purpose and meaning you've been looking for in your life.
